Grilled Gouda & Apple Sandwich Recipe: Yes it’s good

I am pregnant and obnoxiously busy lately, so that means two things: food is important, and complicated meals are better when someone else cooks them. While I do love a dinner party, and a few occasions hunger pangs here and there screamed for a fully cooked meal, it’s the quick and dirty dinner that remains one of my first loves.

Busy and lazy also tend to translate into scantily stocked shelves, so I have to be inventive, too. Luckily The Mister’s bizarre eating habits earned him the nickname “pregnant boy” growing up, and I have become a little more adventurous as my belly has grown as well. Born from these, and the facts that our stove went on the fritz last night and my microwave and sandwich maker were my only hope, was last night’s dinner – Grilled Gouda and Apple Sandwiches:


1/2 Fuji Apple, halved and thinly sliced
4 Slices Smoked Gouda, cut into triangles
4 Slices of Honey Wheat Bread
Ground Cinnamon
Butter flavored cooking spray (or butter if ye be so inclined)


Heat your sandwich maker – or if you are lucky like any normal household the a pan lightly greased over medium heat on the stovetop. Spray one side of each bread slice with the cooking spray, layer 2 slices of the gouda and 1/4 of the apple on one slice of bread and sprinkle with cinnamon and close the sandwhich.


Repeat for second sandwich – then eat the rest of that apple. Put that baby on the pan or sandwich maker and cook until cheesy gets all gooey and melty, and the outsides are toasted to your liking.


Try that and tell me it’s not good… I dare ya!

  1. You know what else is good? Stuffing a pork chop with apple and gouda. Lunch, and dinner!

    The sandwich looks yum-o, BTW. What kind of health-nut chips are those? 🙂 Where are the Cheetos!?

  2. Yummy, that sounds good, too just a little more complicated than my microwave and sandwich maker can handle 🙂 Those are the veggie chips from Whole Foods. They are waaaayyy better than Cheetos… well, at least in my mind – probably not in practice, haha!
